Season One Episode 7: The Wedding
Cue up the theme song because Outlander is at it again with another breathtaking episode. This one probably a major fan favorite, at least one of ours. We are devoted to pulling this one out at least once a month or more. So here we go with the wedding!
Oh dear no, not that one. Yeah that is Frank and Claire getting married and all very good but really not the two we are waiting for. Interesting change from the books, but we are not dwelling on that here.
All the nerves going into this marriage from the start. Sure they are both nervous, should be at that. I love when Claire pulls out phrases from her time, like calling Jamie a regular Bob Hope. He is trying so hard here to make her feel comfortable.
Brings back so many memories of my wedding. Everyone else in the chapel fades into the distance once the bride there.
No fear as long as I am with you.
Making the plans with the boys. Seriously don't know how these guys managed to make such a fine wedding.... but they did.
Something to be said for the distance at this moment. Great shot from the camera crew. Strong sense of longing right here which quickly.
And with a slight interruption from these two again! A reminder there is an entire clan waiting downstairs for these two to hurry along and ... yeah ... and again ...
One of my favorite parts again is Jamie telling Claire all about his family. A good way to get to a point where they feel more comfortable with each other. Kind of wished we could hear more though. I think the story of his parents alone would make an awesome romantic film.
"To bed or to sleep?" Love that line... use it as often.
And she is like.... well.
There are far to many laces on that thing. Still the music makes this whole scene even more perfect.
The gaze of a new husband and an adoring bride.
So the first time around did not go quite as Jamie expected. Of course he remarks the advice from his friends, all of them, seemed to be right. Claire is a bit disturbed by the notion of the pre-wedding counsel. So advice for guys, if your friends give you advice listen to open ears and forget it all immediately afterward.
I really enjoy the interweaving of the prewedding planning along with the wedding night. Jamie is an excellent story teller and I always love hearing exchanges between him and Murtagh. You can see when Murtagh talks of Jamie's mother there is a spark and twinkle in his eye. It makes a huge difference to Jamie knowing his mother would approve of Claire. Always watch the relationship between a man and his mother to see how he treats women and if he shows respect and honor. Jamie is full of both.

Jamie had several conditions on getting married to Claire he proposed to Dougal. As for the first being married properly in a church was just plain hilarious. The priest with a cold was probably one of the funniest characters in this episode. I love the battle of Scriptures back and forth and finally Dougal promising windows to the priest. Suddenly he was all to happy to go ahead with the wedding. Shows a certain amount of intelligence and quick wit on the part of Dougal, some of which we see in Jamie as well.
This second condition involved Rupert and Angus having a ring made from a key for Jamie to give Claire. I know the importance of having the right ring, having gone to great lengths myself to furnish my wife with one. The comedy between these two and the blacksmith is an awesome moment in the show. Of course we do not know the significance of the key just yet.
Jamie has a lot of things in that sporran. Though you can tell that key means more than just "nothing". It is a simple ring with a lot of value.
Jamie's third condition involved getting a wedding dress for Claire. The whole scene with Ned Gowan getting the dress was rather silly and you feel the embarrassment for the old man in the process. He certainly does not seem to be the kind of man who frequents such establishments. I love the dress by the way. The whole wardrobe department is amazing on this show.
"James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser"
Well that is a mouthful. Meanwhile Dougal is over there like, can we get on with this. Audience is tasting every sweet moment of delightful bliss. Love the wedding, from start to finish it was perfect.
I understand Claire not remembering any of the wedding. The whole day is usally a blur. I remember mine, but mostly just my bride. Nothing else around her really mattered at the time. I imagine that is just what Jamie was thinking as well.
Awwww the kiss!
Just love the pure joy on Rupert's face in this shot.
